{"id":7528,"date":"2025-12-02T15:42:40","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T15:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cavendishnuclear.com\/?post_type=modals&#038;p=7528"},"modified":"2025-12-02T15:54:59","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T15:54:59","slug":"japan-and-us-decommissioning","status":"publish","type":"modals","link":"https:\/\/www.cavendishnuclear.com\/jp\/modals\/japan-and-us-decommissioning\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan and US decommissioning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-938f2f6e\">\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-bf95e2c9 gb-headline-text\">Japan and US decommissioning<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Cavendish Nuclear is actively involved in <strong>international decommissioning projects<\/strong> in both the United States and Japan, leveraging its UK expertise to tackle complex nuclear challenge<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cavendish Nuclear USA is part of the Southern Ohio Cleanup Company LLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demolition and disposal of gaseous diffusion plant facilities and ancillary buildings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disposition of uranium material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction and operation of a new multi-cell on-site waste disposal facility. This project is one of the largest DOE decommissioning contracts and is addressing legacy contamination from uranium enrichment operations that ended in 2001.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cavendish Nuclear Japan, in partnership, is supporting the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) in decommissioning the Monju sodium-cooled fast breeder reactor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Design and construction of a UK-based facility to treat sodium coolant removal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conversion of sodium into sodium hydroxide for industrial reuse (non-radiological hazard).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engineering and regulatory support for dismantling reactor systems.
