Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year, but it is also the most wasteful!
According to wrap.org.uk the estimated amount of wrapping paper thrown away in the UK at Christmas would stretch to the moon.
Add that to the one billion cards and enough tin foil to cover the county of Suffolk, not to mention the 4.2 million Christmas dinners that go to landfill, and the result is a very unsustainable Christmas.
Throughout December, here at Cavendish Nuclear we have been supporting a more sustainable Christmas by sharing 12 tips on how to enjoy the festive season less wastefully, by encouraging us to:
• Consider what we buy, from gifts to party clothes – remembering why we give and choosing more quality, long lasting items.
• Think about reducing the amount of food that we waste over Christmas, eating local/seasonal food, and replacing some meat options with vegetarian ones.
• Reflect on ways to give more sustainably – such as by using recyclable wrapping paper or re-using gift bags or newspapers creatively.
If we all work together and try to implement if only a few of these tips then we can all have a very happy and more sustainable Christmas!
