Last week Cavendish Nuclear presented, exhibited and showcased its capabilities at the Canadian Nuclear Society 39th Annual Conference in Ottawa.
Val Drake, who is seconded to Magnox as the Waste Strategy & Permissioning Manager, presented a paper focusing on the innovations and progress delivered by the Magnox team in the last five years to decommission the 12 UK Magnox nuclear sites safer, faster and at lower cost.
The presentation covered work delivered during the tenure of the Cavendish Fluor Partnership (the parent body organisation for Magnox) and included:
- an overview of the significant decommissioning work undertaken,
- the collaborative approach with UK regulators to deliver the first UK nuclear site into a state of care and maintenance
- and provided detailed technical reviews of some of the innovations driving efficient risk reduction on sites, which have resulted in significant cost savings to the UK tax payer.
An industry leader in the UK, Cavendish Nuclear is transferring its knowledge and expertise to support the Canadian nuclear market. This has been underpinned by setting up an office alongside our Babcock Canada colleagues in Ottawa.
Steve Young, Cavendish Nuclear Business Winning Director, attending the conference said,
“It was fantastic to showcase the depth and breadth of our innovative capability once again to the Canadian market. The paper presented by Val was extremely well received as it gave a real insight into the unique experience we have gained in the UK nuclear arena.
“We continue to make positive connections with industry experts in Canada and are excited to see the wide range of opportunities that exist for our expertise here.”
