The Berkeley Vaults project involved the design and installation of mechanical handling and processing equipment required to retrieve historic Intermediate Level Waste from three below ground vaults.

The equipment was designed using a modular approach and the modules were constructed and tested off-site at our Whetstone assembly and test facilities near Leicester. This off-site assembly and testing approach enabled fast assembly once the modules were delivered to Berkeley site.

Active commissioning has been successfully completed with the first ILW extracted from the vaults and contained in storage boxes. This is a significant landmark for both Magnox Ltd and the NDA.
